Record the source of a contact

The Source field lets you record where you met a contact and use that information later in the advanced searches.

Add the source to a contact

  1. Go to Contacts > List.
  2. Create a new contact or open the edit view of an existing one.
  3. In the Source field, enter where you met that contact.
  4. Save your changes.

Criteria for naming the source field

You can use this field in a more general or a more specific way, depending on the information you want to look up later.

For example, you can record broad sources such as:

  • Art Fairs
  • Exhibitions
  • Networking

Or use more specific criteria, such as:

  • ARCOmadrid 2026
  • Art Paris 2026
  • Summer exhibition 2026

How you record the source depends on how you want to use this field. If you use a general category such as Art Fairs, you can find every contact you met at art fairs. If you use a more specific source such as ARCOmadrid 2026, you can easily find the contacts you met at that particular event.

As well as keeping this information on the record, you can then filter contacts by source from the advanced search.

Tip

This is a flexible field, so to get the most out of it we recommend standardising the names you use. Before you start using this field, it is worth agreeing internally on clear naming and always applying it the same way.

For example, if you decide to record particular art fairs, agree whether you will use formats such as ARCOmadrid 2026, ARCO Madrid 2026 or ARCO 2026, and keep to that consistently so the searches are genuinely useful.
