Personalise campaigns with first name, surname or tags

Personalise a mailing campaign with tags so each subscriber receives the email with their own details.

Tags let you insert personalised values into a mailing campaign, such as the subscriber's first name or surname. For example, you can use a tag so each recipient gets the email with their own name in the greeting.

Personalise with first name and surname

Use the [Name] tag to show the subscriber's full name.

By default, contacts synchronised between ITGallery and Sendy record the ITGallery first name and surname within Sendy's Name field.

So if a contact is called Eddie Hall, the [Name] tag will show:

Eddie Hall

  1. Open the content of the campaign.
  2. Place the cursor where you want to insert the full name.
  3. Type or paste the [Name] tag.
  4. Save your changes.

Add fields to personalise by first name or surname only

By default, Sendy only includes the Name and Email fields.

This means you can personalise a campaign with the subscriber's full name using the [Name] tag, but you cannot automatically separate first name and surname if that data was not imported into separate fields.

If you want to personalise a campaign using only the first name or only the surname, you first need to create additional fields in the list you are going to import the subscribers into.

The fields you need to create are:

  • Name_solo: to store the first name.
  • Surname: to store the surname.

  1. Go to the Mailing module.
  2. Open the Sendy list you want to import the subscribers into.
  3. Go to Custom fields.
  4. Create the Name_solo field for the first name.
  5. Create the Surname field for the surname.
  6. Import the subscribers including those additional fields.

Personalise with the first name only

Use the [Name_solo] tag to show only the subscriber's first name.

For example, if the contact is Eddie Hall, the [Name_solo] tag will show:

Eddie

  1. Open the content of the campaign.
  2. Place the cursor where you want to insert the first name only.
  3. Type or paste the [Name_solo] tag.
  4. Save your changes.

Personalise with the surname only

Use the [Surname] tag to show only the subscriber's surname.

For example, if the contact is Eddie Hall, the [Surname] tag will show:

Hall

  1. Open the content of the campaign.
  2. Place the cursor where you want to insert the surname only.
  3. Type or paste the [Surname] tag.
  4. Save your changes.

Add a fallback word

Add a fallback word so the text is not left empty if a subscriber does not have that detail recorded.

You can use a fallback word with the personalisation tags.

For example:

Dear [Name, fallback=friend]

If the subscriber has the name field filled in, they receive the email with their name.

If the field is empty, they receive the email with the fallback word.

Export contacts from ITGallery for mailing

If you want to prepare the contacts in ITGallery to import them into Sendy, you can do it from the Contacts module.

See the article Export contacts for mailing.
