Sell an artwork

The ITGallery App also lets you sell artworks on the spot and accept credit card payments in any currency. To do this, you need to have set up Stripe on your account beforehand.

Steps

  1. Open the payment menu (the card icon) at the top of the App, select the artwork or artworks to sell and click 'Next'
  2. Select the 'Sell' option, choose the currency of the prices and the edition or editions of the artwork; then click 'Next' and select the price type
  3. Import the buyer's information from your 'Contacts', or fill in the details and click 'Next'. The minimum details required to create a new contact are a name and a contact email
  4. Decide whether to add taxes to the final value, do the same with discounts and click 'Next'
  5. Finally, select 'Sell'. Check that you have assigned an invoice number beforehand and that the 'Credit card payment' option is on. Only one payment per artwork can be accepted.*

*Why do some artworks disappear from the list when I want to sell through the App? When you want to make a sale or reservation through the App, only the artworks whose status is 'available' are shown.

What is the difference between 'sell' and 'reserve'?

  • 'Sell' is used when you are recording a single purchase by your collector. The client pays there and then and the artwork becomes 'sold' or 'unavailable'.
  • 'Reserve' is used when the collector does not buy there and then, but you hold the artwork at a given price for a limited period. The status of the artwork then becomes 'reserved'.

The process is the same as selling an artwork, but you also have to include a start date and an end date for the reservation period. You also have to choose whether it will be a 'reservation without payment' - that is, without a deposit - or whether there will be a 'credit card payment' or a 'cash payment' (for which you need to have set up Stripe).

After reserving an artwork with a payment, its ITGallery record shows it as "Reserved with payment".

A temporary sale is also recorded with the status "Reservation paid". You can see this sale in the sales list.

If the collector decides to keep the artwork, you can complete the sale from its record in ITGallery by clicking "Complete sale".

How do I take a credit card payment?

During the sale process, once you have selected 'Credit card payment', you move to a new screen where you fill in the card details: number, expiry date and CVC. To record the payment, click the "Complete purchase" button.
